FSHN GSA Role
International Student Representative
Co-Chair of Graduate Recruitment

Who are you and what’s your research about?
Promee is a Ph.D. student in Dr. Banerjee’s lab. She earned her B.S. in Biotechnology from BRAC University, Bangladesh and an M.S. in Biological Sciences from Georgia State University.

Her research focuses on developing rapid molecular diagnostic methods for detecting foodborne pathogens, with an emphasis on loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) and other nucleic acid-based assays. She is particularly interested in improving pathogen detection in fresh produce by optimizing DNA extraction methods to overcome PCR inhibitors, as well as exploring innovative approaches.

Before starting her Ph.D., Promee gained professional experience as an Intern in an industrial food microbiology lab (BCSIR) and as a Molecular Diagnostic Technician(Medical Entomology lab) at the Illinois Natural History Survey.

In her free time, she enjoys cooking and reading mystery and fantasy novels.

Why is the FSHN GSA important to you?
Because it builds community, creates a supportive network, and makes the department more connected and welcoming
